Back in the 70s when our family lived in Mundelien, Bob started collecting old bikes and rebuilding them to sell in fron to our house on Route 45. He found working on bikes and making people happy a drastic change from his career in mechnical engineering. In the mid 70s Bob and his best friend Gary decided to create a side business for fun, adventure, and a little extra money. Our first "real" shop was located in Lake Zurich in Gary's garage. After a few years in the garage and atleast two massive floods, they decided to move to "higher" ground. They rented a store in the back of a building on West Rollins Road. We had a smaill display window and an overhead garage door for our service area. This was at the beginning of the BMX racing boom. We stayed in that location for approx 5 years. During that time the kids started racing BMX and the shop was doing a decent business. While at this location, Gary got very interested in gas powered modes of transportation and sold his share of the business to Bob and Pat. Bob had bounced to three new companies as an engineer at this time and had enough with corporate America and decided to jump into the bicycle biesiness with both feet.Shortly after that we moved onto Cedar Lake Road to a HUGE building of 1200 sq. feet. Bob and his close friends transformed a cinder block building unto a show room and service area. The kids were still racing and in the beginning the shop was closed on Sundays for race days, but eventually our customer demand was too large to be closed and Bob would run the shop while Pat went to the races with the kids We were blessed with many great employees during our time on Cedar Lake Road. We were there for 10 years and for the last 3 were busting at the seams. We had big dreams and no room to put them. Bob's foresight when we were on Cedar Lake Road brought us to where we are today. He purchased two parcels of vacant land on Rollins Road shortly after signing the lease on the Cedar Lake Road store. By the time we had the customer base to support a larger building, he had PRIME land on Rollins and began building our 4800 square foot dream in 1994. Over the previous few years, he also had acquired a good number of displays and merchandising material for the new shop. Bob was the general contractor during the build and orchestrated the building of our new building, while Nikki ran the shop on Cedar Lake Road with her daughter at work with her.We moved iinto our new home October 30-31, 1994. At the christieing party with our family/friends/employees, we all looked at this cavernous space and wondered how we would EVER fill thi space. Today we think we have done a great job filling this space with terrific products and wonderful employees to suite just about any type of rider from 2-100 years old!!!
